AMY CERT

Community Emergency Response Team Partnership

Exciting News for Avery, Mitchell, and Yancey Counties: Introducing AMY CERT!

We are thrilled to announce that the W34P Foundation Incorporated is proudly sponsoring the formation of the AMY CERT (Avery, Mitchell, Yancey Community Emergency Response Team), representing Spruce Pine, NC and supporting our beautiful mountain communities through critical emergency response training and education efforts.

What is AMY CERT?

AMY CERT is a program that trains ordinary citizens to be extraordinary in times of crisis. When disasters strike – whether it's a hurricane, flood, wildfire, or other emergency – CERT-trained volunteers are ready to:

  • Provide immediate assistance to family, friends, and neighbors.
  • Support professional first responders by managing utilities, providing medical aid, and organizing spontaneous volunteers.
  • Conduct light search and rescue operations.
  • Assist with disaster intelligence by assessing damage and reporting findings.
  • Help organize shelters and distribute essential supplies.
  • Educate the community on disaster preparedness.

Empowering Our Community

The goal of AMY CERT is to empower our communities to become self-sufficient in the critical hours and days following a disaster, ensuring that help is available from within, until outside rescuers can arrive.

Why is this important for our community?

Our region, nestled in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, is not immune to natural disasters. By establishing AMY CERT, we are building a stronger, more prepared, and resilient community—ready to meet emergencies head-on.

Operating Under W34P Foundation Inc.

While AMY CERT will primarily service Avery, Mitchell, and Yancey counties, we operate under the umbrella of the W34P Foundation Inc. and are equipped to collaborate regionally in larger-scale emergencies.
